Tensegrity Chair Model

For the final project in 24-672: DIY Design and Fabrication course at Carnegie Mellon, I chose to design a tensegrity chair. The basic idea was that the actual seat component of the chair is not rigidly attached to any other component. Instead, it is the combination of forces provided by multiple tensioned cables that keeps the chair together, and the sitter off the ground.

The model consists of three 3D printed parts, fishing line, and small jewelry crimps. The fishing line is tensioned through the 3D prints, and the crimps keep them in place.
